Two Proofs of Haff’s Law for Dissipative Gases: the Use of Entropy and the Weakly Inelastic Regime

چکیده
We revisit our recent contribution [2] and give two simpler proofs of the socalled Haff’s law for granular gases (with non-necessarily constant restitution coefficient). The first proof is based upon the use of entropy and asserts that Haff’s law holds whenever the initial datum is of finite entropy. The second proof uses only the moments of the solutions and holds in some weakly inelasticity regime which has to be clearly defined whenever the restitution coefficient is non-constant.

Relaxation Rate, Diffusion Approximation and Fick’s Law for Inelastic Scattering Boltzmann Models Bertrand Lods
We consider the linear dissipative Boltzmann equation describing inelastic interactions of particles with a fixed background. For the simplified model of Maxwell molecules first, we give a complete spectral analysis, and deduce from it the optimal rate of exponential convergence to equilibrium. Moreover we show the convergence to the heat equation in the diffusive limit and compute explicitely ...

متن کاملHydrodynamics from Grad’s equations for weakly inelastic granular flows
We introduce and discuss Grad’s moment equations for dilute granular systems of hard spheres with dissipative collisions and variable coefficient of restitution, under the assumption of weak inelasticity. An important byproduct is that in this way we obtain an hydrodynamic description of a system of nearly elastic particles by a direct procedure from the Boltzmann equation. In particular, it is...
متن کاملBlow Up Analysis for Anomalous Granular Gases
We investigate in this article the long-time behaviour of the solutions to the energydependant, spatially-homogeneous, inelastic Boltzmann equation for hard spheres. This model describes a diluted gas composed of hard spheres under statistical description, that dissipates energy during collisions. We assume that the gas is “anomalous”, in the sense that energy dissipation increases when tempera...
متن کاملCooling process for inelastic Boltzmann equations for hard spheres, Part II: Self-similar solutions and tail behavior
We consider the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation for inelastic hard spheres, in the framework of so-called constant normal restitution coefficients. We prove the existence of self-similar solutions, and we give pointwise estimates on their tail. We also give general estimates on the tail and the regularity of generic solutions. In particular we prove Haff’s law on the rate of decay of t...
